The Project:

BT Sport produced extensive live digital programming using Dizplai to feature viewer’s social media interactions – including images, comments, and aggregated live polls – alongside dynamic broadcast-standard graphics, for a range of sports entertainment shows.

The Challenge

The British broadcaster has the rights to some of the biggest sports across the globe, so producers wanted to extend the coverage of their primary broadcasts and deliver interactive content relevant to a wider audience of all ages. Supplemental shows were commissioned with the goal of using viewer engagement to influence the narrative of each show.

They needed tools to source interaction from their social channels, moderate, and redisplay into the live shows, featuring dynamic graphics, such as tickers, full screen visuals and polls. For integration into the digital workflows and Grabyo production tools, they required a cloud-based platform that could be accessed from a web browser and work with multiple live outputs from remote locations.

How we did it:

For each show, Dizplai’s creative solutions and support team were on hand for online training, creation of HTML-graphics, and audience engagement strategy. BT Sport’s producers managed Dizplai during each show and curated live content throughout.

“We’ve used Dizplai’s creative services extensively to enhance our range of supplemental sports shows and engage our audience more than ever. The ability to aggregate poll data and source social content on-the-fly is a fantastic resource for our production team” Daniel Rumens, Digital Content Manager – BT Sport

The Results:

Following the worldwide pandemic, and over a year with near-empty sports venues, captivating fans at home was a priority. BT Sport streamed exciting programming via VMix and Grabyo, with Dizplai integrated into the virtual workflow, to create an immersive experience, to over seven million viewers on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Cup Draw:

In the build up to the live Champions League and Europa League draws broadcast from Switzerland, BT Sport delivered two special reaction shows featuring former stars Joe Cole and Peter Crouch. The guests were streamed from remote locations, with the feeds overlayed alongside graphics created and displayed by Dizplai.

Boxing

Similar to UFC, the boxing shows supplement premium broadcast coverage, with boxing stars such as Tyson Fury, offering opinion on previous, or upcoming fights. Tickers and lower-thirds, with calls-to-action and latest data feature heavily, with full screen social content and live polls running throughout.

UFC

Weekly shows in the form of reactions, reviews and live weigh-ins, heavily feature audience interaction in the shape of comments, images and aggregated poll results. The three hosts give live analysis and discuss upcoming fights, while a ticker features upcoming news and also tells viewers to send in questions via Twitter to their @BTSportsUFC – #FightWeek tag. Throughout the show producers run multiple polls across social and display into the feed, to gauge opinion and influence narrative, creating heated discussion with the hosts and on the live chats.

WWE

BT Sport’s The Run-In is the go-to show for British wrestling fans, following the latest storylines and build-up to big events, for WWE Raw, WWE NXT and WWE SmackDown. Broadcast on linear and digital channels, the host runs in-depth interviews featuring current WWE superstars in the studio and from remote locations. The show includes viewer interactions and graphics overlays, curated by Dizplai.
