Elevating Fan Engagement for the A-League & W-League Awards

Challenge

With COVID-19 restrictions forcing a fully remote awards ceremony, production company, I Want It Yesterday, wanted to create a highly interactive media experience for Australian football fans. The challenge was to connect with viewers watching on various platforms, such as Facebook and YouTube, and implement fan engagement features during the show, all while featuring their live reactions and comments, without compromising on the professional look and feel of a traditional broadcast.

Solution

Dizplai was used by producers to create a captivating live show. Our cloud-based platform provided remote production tools and a comprehensive solution for social media integration.

A League Awards Dizplai Social Media Integration

While the pre-recorded content aired, the Dizplai platform was remotely managed via a web browser to source, moderate, and publish live comments and images found through the use of the hashtags #ALeague, #WLeague, and #DWAwards. The L3 broadcast graphics overlays were featured throughout the show, ensuring the content remained on-brand while adding a professional polish that put user generated content (UGC) at the forefront of the production.

Results

The A-League and W-League awards show successfully transformed a remote event into an immersive, interactive experience for a digital audience, leading to:

  • An audience of over 21,000 watched the event on the combined social and app streams.
  • The use of hashtags like #ALeague #WLeague and #DWAwards allowed fans to participate directly in the show.
  • By featuring fan reactions in real time, the show created a first-of-its-kind experience that made viewers feel like they were a part of the event despite the lockdown restrictions.
