Powering SBS & Eurovision’s Live Fan Engagement
Challenge
Australian broadcaster SBS wanted to transform its coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest into a live, interactive media experience. SBS challenged Dizplai to bridge the gap between viewers at home and the broadcast, celebrating the international song contest while driving more audience participation from broadcast viewers. This required a sophisticated data integration platform to manage high volumes of votes and user-generated content (UGC) in real-time.
Solution
Dizplai partnered with SBS to power Eurovision’s live fan engagement throughout the Semi-Final and Grand Final broadcasts. Our platform’s data integration capabilities allowed producers to monitor social conversation via the #Eurovision hashtag.

Using our search and social media integration functions, the team was able to find and curate the best fan reactions from multiple social media sources. These comments and images were then delivered as dynamic broadcast graphics directly to the live show, bringing viewers a truly personalised viewing experience.

Results
The social-first approach successfully connected with audiences, leading to a significant increase in engagement and a powerful sense of shared experience:
- The campaign proved that audiences are happy to share their excitement and connect with a broadcaster when given the opportunity to participate directly in programming.
- The hashtag #SBSEurovision trended in Australia during the broadcasts.
- High volumes of social content were successfully managed and displayed on-air.
