Fuelling Oscars Fan Engagement for Sky

Challenge

Sky Cinema wanted to create a more immersive experience for its live broadcast of the 93rd Annual Academy Awards. With the show being an in-person event, Sky was eager to feature the audience’s opinions shared on Twitter to bridge the gap between the event and the audience at home. This required a solution that could rapidly search, moderate, and integrate thousands of tweets into the live production.

Solution

Dizplai provided a cloud-based interactive media solution that powered fan engagement throughout the live broadcast. Producers used the Dizplai platform’s social media integration and advanced content moderation features to search and filter through thousands of tweets using the #Oscars hashtag.

Sky Cinema Oscar's Social Media Integration

This process, which would have been a slow, manual task, allowed them to select and redisplay relevant user generated content (UGC) with stunning broadcast graphics. The solution was easily accessed through a web browser and integrated seamlessly into Sky’s workflow, creating a frictionless experience for the production team.

Results

The partnership successfully amplified audience participation and made viewers a central part of the show’s narrative, leading to:

  • The live broadcast became a two-way conversation, featuring viewer reactions in real time.
  • The hashtag #Oscars trended as a top topic in multiple regions on Twitter.
  • Producers efficiently managed high volumes of social content, a process that was previously slow and manual.
  • The campaign proved the value of live interactive media in enhancing a major broadcast event.
