The Project

The Fury vs Wilder 3 Preview Show and 21/22-season Champions League Tonight Show featured an innovative in-studio social media display, controlled by the presenter, and powered by Dizplai. Producers for the linear broadcast productions used Dizplai’s cloud-based platform to source, cue, and display live social media reaction – including real-time polls, comments, images and videos – throughout the Champions League goal analysis and build up to the biggest heavy weight boxing fight of the year!

The Challenge

BT Sport were looking for a platform that would enable producers to not only show real-time reaction sourced from social media, but also give the presenter the power to cue and publish selected content from a tablet during the live broadcast. A cloud-based solution was required to integrate seamlessly into the workflow at the studios and enable both the broadcast and digital production team to collaborate on sourcing and moderating the relevant social content for the presenter and guests to discuss.

Production

BT Sport have used Dizplai for their digital offering, informing audiences on live social streams for boxing, UFC and WWE. Following that success, BT Sport turned to Dizpai to deliver an audience-led offering, with large in-studio display and innovative social media wall being the main feature of both broadcasts.

From early production meetings, ideas for the highlights programme began to take place, giving the team at Dizplai the opportunity to influence the workflow. Knowing that the in-studio visuals would be key to the success of the project, they showed how BT Sport could put control of the graphics in the presenter’s hands with the brand new “Presenter’s Edition” of the Producer Portal, itself a new feature designed for visually compelling playout of graphics.

Dizplai seamlessly integrated into the workflow, outputting the graphic overlays into the production for the in-studio display or broadcast overlays. Digital producers search for the best content for the narrative, and prepared content to go to air. Working alongside BT Sport, and watching the Producer Portal in action, new functionality was added to support the production and improve the product for all users of Dizplai.

Champions League Tonight

For BT Sport’s Champions League show, the presenter and guests, discuss real-time social reaction from players and fans following the frenetic European matches, running polls to gauge opinion on the best goal or winner of the next head-to-heads.

Fury vs Wilder Preview Show

With an unmissable broadcast-event at the end of the week, BT Sport delivered a week-long campaign in the lead up to the big fight, including the hour-long Preview show. Derek Chisora, Carl Frampton and host, Richie Woodhall broke down all the major talking points, with social at the very centre of the discussion. Throughout the show, BT Sport ran a poll on Twitter to find out the viewers’ favoured fighter, with aggregated poll data featured on the display accompanied by video highlights, images and comments from the audience and the fighters themselves, all sourced from social.

“The Presenter Prompter gives four presenters the power to cue and publish the live social reaction at speed, making for a smooth delivery of content on the screen. Dizplai helps us to follow and source relevant reaction following the big talking points on social. BT Sport’s social wall is helping to improve our viewers’ engagement with our programming.” Mark Utting – Head of Digital and Social Media at BT Sport
