Powering Fan Engagement with Sky Viewer’s Verdict
Challenge
Sky Sports sought a new way to drive fan engagement for their boxing broadcasts, allowing viewers to directly participate in Sky’s boxing broadcasts while Sky collected valuable first-party data from the participants. The goal was to create a compelling second-screen experience that would enable audience participation and seamlessly integrate live viewer opinions into the broadcast, adding a new layer to the commentary and story.
Solution
Dizplai collaborated with Sky Sports to create the Viewers’ Verdict, a live interactive scorecard housed within the Sky Sports app. Viewers could score fights round-by-round and compare their opinions to other fans via a “fan total” scorecard.

Results
The Viewers’ Verdict successfully drove significant live engagement and created a new dynamic for boxing broadcasts, leading to fantastic results, such as:- 45,000 fans opened the web app on the first night, with hundreds of thousands participating since launch.
- The scorecard created a new on-air talking point by highlighting discrepancies between the official verdict and the viewers’ verdict.
- The campaign proved the business value of driving traffic to digital properties and collecting user insights via first-party data while creating additional broadcast narratives to extend fans’ engagement.
